About Christine

I am so lucky to do what I love! Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher. I played school with my friends, and couldn’t wait to have my own classroom after I graduated from college. I have been helping people of all ages learn about the world – from four-year-olds to 84-year-olds and every age in between.

There is nothing more exciting to me than to catch an “ah-ha” moment in a student’s life – the one when he understands the concept. It may be an unfamiliar word, a more complex sentence structure, or an idiom. He “gets it” and the world has grown so much more beautiful because of it.

Developing critical thinking skills is very important, and I like to incorporate them in our lessons. For the higher grades, we will focus on a specific skill in each lesson (drawing conclusions, analyzing, evaluating, applying, synthesizing). It is the ability to think in an organized and rational manner in order to understand connections between ideas and/or facts.

My lessons are tailored to each individual student’s needs. This makes the student progress at a rapid rate.

I have five precious sons! I home schooled them through high school and it was a very special time for me. We did everything together, and it was fun to get to know them, and to see each son’s individual learning style.

I lived in Japan for six years and loved to learn about the people, culture, history and language. I like challenges, and learning the Japanese language was exciting. I can empathize with students who are learning a second language, and I know how rewarding it is.

I am looking forward to meeting your student!
